So, last Wednesday I got to go to a private viewing at the Dallas Museum of Art of ancient textiles. Man was it fun, but made me feel like my loom work was mere child's play. My advanced weaving class could not hold their breath, and it was really insane to see what ancient peoples could do. We mainly looked at textiles from West Africa, Guatemala, and Myanmar.

And speaking of weaving, the Dallas high-end department store, Stanley Korshak, recently picked up the line Goods of Conscience. Designed by the elusive Father Andrew O'Connor (priest, artist, fashion designer, social activist, philosopher), the brand makes beautiful clothing from traditional back-strap weaving by fairly paid Mayan people. O'Connor believes that art can change the world, and he's doing his part.

And recently featured in Vogue, he's well on the way to change.

I don't like kids, and don't plan on having them, but this is a cool one.

This afternoon I'm going to private viewing of ancient textiles at the Dallas Museum of Art for my advanced weaving class. I'm excited!

Weekend Update

On Friday, my roommate Kim convinced me to go with her to a vintage store, Style Station, two hours away in the small town of West, Texas. And while I didn't get any clothes (which I later regretted), I got two vinyls, and Kim got some gold and black cowboy boots and a vintage tee. It was a fun day trip, and we even stopped at Willie Nelson's gas station on the way there.

Last night I had some work up in my first show at 500x Gallery in Dallas. The reception was great, and I'm glad to have had my friends around me. And now, onto homework.

TGIF

On Wednesday I got to go to a show with DD-MM-YYYY and These Arms are Snakes at Rubber Gloves. It was definitely worth taking a break from an art history paper. Chanel came out with a new travel bag line of quilted nylon. I'm sure how I feel about it yet, but I like Lily Allen in the campaign.

The Making of Lionel Hampton

Just doing research for one of studio classes, and came across this gem.

Lately I have been forgetting that I have a blog.

I have had nothing exciting, nor fashionable to share in a while. School has been hectic, and living life is getting in the way. Last night I got the opportunity to bartend a reception at the gallery I intern at, and it was cool. Anyway, I have been wanting to show this painter, Wesley Kimler, that I got to see while I was in Chicago. His paintings are so large and overwhelming, but so beautiful yet strange.

Have a good weekend, and I promise to be more diligent.
